You probably will encounter when you first startup your Mac a question screen asking for your name, address, phone number and other personal information. While Apple makes an effort to keep all that information private, and you can read the Privacy Notice to learn more about it, you may still not want to provide the personal information when you first set up your Mac. Unlike Windows XP you don't have to provide the personal information it asks for just to run X the first time, or when you reinstall X. Simply hit the Apple (cloverleaf iconed, a.k.a. command) key together with the Q key, and you will be out of the registration screen. The next screen you encounter the question for a username and password. This is important since in Mac OS X, you will need a username and password to install certain applications and run updates to your operating system. You can
register at a later time
if you don't have internet access when you encounter that screen.
